March is all about slowing down and looking closer.

Texture is the visual feel of a surface — rough, smooth, cracked, peeling, weathered, soft, gritty, polished. Think tree bark, rusted metal, old paint, wrinkled hands, woven fabric, stone walls, frost on glass, or wind-carved sand.

The key is to make the viewer feel the surface just by looking at it.

What to Look For:

•  Side lighting that reveals depth and detail
•  Patterns created by repetition or erosion
•  Contrast between rough and smooth surfaces
•  Natural wear: age, decay, weather, patina
•  Close-up details that aren’t obvious from a distance

Before You Submit:

• Adjust contrast and clarity to enhance surface detail (but avoid over-processing).
• Check sharpness—texture images usually benefit from crisp focus.
• Watch highlights and shadows so detail isn’t lost.
• Consider a tighter crop to eliminate distractions.
• Try black and white if color distracts from the tactile quality.

Remember, strong texture images don’t just show a surface—they invite the viewer to experience it. Get close. Change your angle. Let the light do the storytelling.
